Patient Success Story · Whole-Body Recovery · Strength & Mobility Restored
The caring people at Synergy do everything they can think of to help me recover strength, body movement, and mobility. The care and caring at Synergy Carbondale is exceptional!
— Sharon Marquis
What was happening
Sharon came to Synergy needing recovery across three foundational capacities — strength, movement, and mobility. When all three are limited at once, it usually points to a global deconditioning pattern: a body that has lost its baseline through illness, surgery, prolonged inactivity, or chronic pain that has limited what it could do.
Getting all three back is rarely a single-system project. It is what physical therapy was originally designed to do, when done well.
What other providers missed
Patients who present with broad deconditioning are often handed a generic strengthening program and sent home. That can miss the order in which capacities need to come back. Mobility usually has to come before strengthening, because strengthening into a restricted joint reinforces the restriction. Movement quality needs to be addressed alongside strength, or new strength is built on top of old compensatory patterns.
Skip the sequence, and progress stalls.
What we did differently
Our team built a plan that respected the order. We restored mobility first where it had been lost. We layered in movement re-education so the body could relearn quality patterns. We progressively loaded the system as it became ready, so strength was built on a foundation that could actually use it.
And, as Sharon noticed, we did the work caringly. That matters more than it sounds. Patients who feel cared for engage more fully, push through hard moments, and stay with the plan through the rebuild. That engagement is part of why the outcomes happen.
The outcome
Sharon is recovering strength, body movement, and mobility. She describes the care as exceptional — the experience matches the outcome.
Whole-body recovery is not glamorous. It is patient, sequenced, attentive work. When it is done well, the results are foundational — the kind of capacity that supports everything else a person wants to do.
