Patient Success Story · Chronic Pain & Care Quality · Treated Until Better, Not Until the Limit
My therapy here was thorough and comprehensive, based on need and results and not on a system of six sessions and you’re done therapy that I have had in the past at another provider.
— Anonymous Synergy Patient
What was happening
This patient came to Synergy after experiencing the protocol-driven version of physical therapy elsewhere — six sessions and discharge, regardless of whether the underlying problem was actually resolved. That model exists for billing and throughput reasons. It does not exist because chronic pain follows a six-session timeline.
For patients with real, complex pain, that approach often produces an arc that goes: hopeful start, partial improvement, discharge before the gains can consolidate, return of symptoms, repeat the cycle somewhere new.
What other providers missed
The protocol model treats every patient as if they have the same body, the same history, and the same response curve. They do not. A six-session ceiling works for a sprained ankle. It does not work for a complex pain pattern that took years to build.
When the timeline is fixed and the patient is not, the patient pays for the mismatch.
What we did differently
Our team treats based on assessment findings and on what the patient is actually responding to. The plan adjusts with the patient. If the work is producing gains, we keep going. If something is not responding, we reassess and change the approach. If the patient reaches their goals in a few sessions, that is what discharge looks like. If they need more, they get more.
That is what comprehensive care actually means — treatment matched to need, not to a number on a chart.
The outcome
This patient received care that was, in their own words, thorough and comprehensive. Based on results, not a protocol limit.
Real recovery does not follow a calendar. It follows the body. Care that respects that produces better outcomes than care that does not.
