Our pediatric program empowers parents, families, and caregivers with knowledge that will change their and their child’s life.
To get started with any Carbondale or Du Quoin pediatric services, our physical and occupational therapists will first establish a comprehensive history of your child’s environment to understand the context in which your child has and continues to develop.
Our therapists will ask about your child’s medical history in detail, and if applicable, the mother’s pregnancy. Then, any past or current services that your child receives will be discussed. After that, our physical and occupational therapists will perform a detailed evaluation to assess your child’s individual strengths, weaknesses, primitive reflexes, and any other pertinent information.
Sensory integrative problems interfere directly with the brain development and could cause poor behavior at home or school. Adequate sensory exploration, interaction, and sensory experiences by our occupational therapists at Synergy Therapeutic Group shows to be more effective than just providing ABA, which exclusively focuses on behaviors.
Our program includes (but is not limited to):
- Parent education about the child’s condition in detail rather than just a diagnosis
- Primitive reflex integration
- Brain balancing exercises
- Breathing exercises
- Activities to improve eye contact
- Gross and fine motor exercises
- Handwriting skills
- Self-care training
- Toilet training
- Myo-Fascial release
- Therapeutic listening (to decrease auditory sensitivity, improve auditory processing, and increase focus)
- Muscle strengthening exercises
- Digital detox therapy
- Feeding therapy
