Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
What you should know about carpel tunnel syndrome (CTS)
Numbness or pain in your hand, forearm, or wrist that awakens you at night. (Shaking or moving your fingers may ease this numbness and pain.) Stiffness in your fingers when you get up in the morning. You have difficulty to do simple hand movements, such as brushing your hair or holding a fork. You may accidentally drop objects. You yourself or your family or co-worker already has a diagnosis for you “carpal tunnel syndrome”. So you know the obvious so you try to deal with it as long as you can. Now things are getting out of control so either you went to a chiropractor or to your own physician who give you some pain medication, a splint and may be send you to a nearby physical therapy place. In physical therapy you probably got some type of heat and ultrasound to your wrist, did some wrist/hand exercise and hope fully you got some relief may be temporary.
Now symptoms did not improve or coming back, so you went back to your physician who ordered a nerve conduction test which came back to show that you have carpal tunnel syndrome so you are scheduled for surgery. After two months of surgery you are probably doing fine but suddenly the symptoms come back. Now you are scheduled for more surgeries.
If you are suffering pain in the wrist or hand you can relate to the above story.
If your doctor has suggested you consult a surgeon or if you’ve already had surgery performed on your wrist, there is important information you simply must know!
Some facts about carpal tunnel syndrome
Taking any pain medication (over the counter or prescription) will never be a cure for getting rid of your wrist pain once and for all! At best, these drugs will only offer 4-6 hours of relief by sabotaging your brain’s ability to feel the pain coming from your wrists. This may be fine for getting you through a day’s work but taking these pills over and over can put you at risk in 2 ways: Pain is your body’s way to preventing further injury. Take away the pain and you may make your wrist injury worse and your pain greater. And taking these drugs can have adverse effects on your kidneys, liver, and stomach lining that is worse than the wrist pain you are taking the pills for in the first place!
A cortisone injection sweeps your pain under the rug just like your medications do, and like your medications, it will wear off and your pain will come back probably worse than ever. Wearing a wrist splint may be a temporary solution but if your constant pain reduces you to wearing a splint all day, you can be put at risk of permanently damaging your wrist more by allowing scar tissue to form.
“Carpal tunnel surgery has about a 57% failure rate following patients from 1-day to 6-years. At least one of the following symptoms re-occurred during this time: Pain, Numbness, Tingling sensations.” Source: Nancollas, et al, 1995. J. Hand Surgery. Case of female this failure rate even increases further. Essentially, the average person diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome will be out of work for 6 weeks, and will face a worse than 50/50 chance of becoming permanently disabled to some extent. These are disconcerting statistics.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is an entrapment of a middle (median) nerve compressed between the wrist and hand muscles and a ligament that passing across the wrist. The carpal tunnel is a canal that encloses nine finger tendons, connective tissue, arteries, veins, and the median nerve. An arch of this canal is made by eight wrist bones that also form an arc. The median nerve passes beneath this arc, and the carpal ligament extends over the eight wrist bones.
Above is true in case of a true carpal tunnel symptom but the truth is not all pain in the wrist or hand is caused by carpal tunnel syndrome. There are many other conditions with similar symptoms

Before coming to Synergy I had pain in both hands more so in the left on the scale of 1-10 it was a 6. After taking treatment, stopped taking Aleve and have resulted in no pain at all. I noticed a difference in my pain after the first visit and more each visit after that until I had no pain left at all. Thank you for your referral. (Dale, Benton, IL)
